Genre Conventions

Genre Conventions
Game
Genre
Typical conventions
*
Guns/War
You would expect to see a rather dull colour, to connote a sense of mystery, and it also doesn’t give much away. You, on this type of game, would expect to find a gun. The typeface on this is Tough and metallic looking which connotes the gun, or another metal like object; Helicopters, planes etc...
*
Childrens Game/RPG
On a children’s cover you would expect to find lots of bright and exuberant colours and a friendly looking character, which would give the children a more accepting feel. The bright colours also link in with this, as if the game cover for this was similar to the last one, i don’t think children would want it. The typeface, is quite large and easy to read, which is helpful for the children who will be playing the game. The colours you would expect to see are bright colours such as; Pinks, yellow, oranges and as in this a subtle blue,
*
Football
On a football cover you would usually expect to see, a player playing football or possibly a direct picture of a match or a stadium. on this cover, you see the footballer’s are celebrating a goal, which tells you that they may only put the better goal scoring players on the front cover, which is similar to magazines and tv in the sense that only the best, most perfect footballers can make it to the cover. The title ‘FIFA 14’ is quite rounded, where it can be, this may link into to the type of text used on football shirts, sponsors, club logos etc…  or the style of writing used on logo’s throughout ‘The FA’ and ‘FIFA’
*
RPG/Crime
This sort of game is just a general RPG game, it is also very focused on crime. So you would expect to see pictures of ‘the ghetto’, drugs, guns, cars, prostitutes, etc… The typeface on this game, is like a graffiti style which again is the sort of style you would expect to find in the game. In many first person shooter games they tend to, have very rough typeface, metallic like, connoting guns or graffiti, like this game, connoting crime. Whereas the top game seems to be rather disaster-struck scene, as in many other RPG games seem to just focus on the guns and violence there is some variation between RPG games as they are not all similar, like 1st person shooters.
*
Music
On a game like this, ‘band hero’, you would expect to find instruments, such as; drums, guitars, bass’ etc..
You would also expect quite a low PEGI Rating. As well as bright colours, as you would want to attract the attention of younger children. The typeface is very reflective of the style of music that is in the game, ie, Pop music may be very extravagant colours; oranges, yellows etc. Whereas Rock music may be the cool blue colour, this colour perhaps again giving a feel for the game.
*
Children’s games
This sort of game, a children’s game, you would again expect to find an array of different colours, again to attract the child’s attention
The title on this game is very free-flowing and fun, like a carnival, the bright colours and ‘NEW’, will also grab the eye of the gamer.

Proposal

Proposal
1. Outline the game / artiste / band that you are creating the design.  What / who is it similar to? What Genre is it?
My game will be a sports/football game, similair to the 'Football Manager' series, made by SEGA.
2. What is the name of the product?  Does this have an impact on the design in any way?
The name of my product will be 'Fanatsy Football Manager 2K14' however as with many popular games it will be abbreviated to "FFM 2014". Therefore on the front of my design I will have this (FFM 2014) on the front cover, however I will have the main title on the spine.
3. Discuss the theme/feeling of the album / game and how this will impact on the visuals. (sad= blue, slow etc etc) You've got to really paint a picture in words of the design you are planning. You should also talk about the body language of the protagonist or artiste in question.
My game is a football related game, but a fantasy game rather than a player game. So there isn't much feeling to the come but I will use a lot of blue. The back may however connote to a serious feel, as the managers suits will be black.
4. Discuss the colour scheme that you are using. Look at examples for help if you wish.
On my front cover I will attempt to be similar to the 'FIFA' series, in which I will have the background image quite opaque but the two main characters large and in colour to emphasise that they are the stars. I will mainly use blues as that is probably going to be a recurring colour in my pictures.
5. Will you stay with conventions or steer away? Why? What has been omitted.
I will probably stay with conventions, as I will try to make it look similar to FIFA.
6. Next, talk about artwork, what effects will be used, what does the colour/ line/ shape say about the effect? Think about the photographs and the mise-en scene that needs to be created.
The effects will consist mainly of a black and white picture for the background, with my to main characters in the front, so I probably won't need any other effects.
